Brief Introduction of Claude Oscar Monet

Claude Monet (1840-1926), born in Paris, is a famous French painter and one of the founders of the Impressionism movement. In 1856, he met his mentor and began to learn techniques of oil paintings. In 1862 Monet became a student of Charles Gleyre in Paris. In there, he met Auguste Renoir, Frederic Bazille and Alfred Sisley. They three shared new approaches to art, painting the effects of light en plein air with broken colour and rapid brushstrokes. This later came to be known as Impressionism. He completed a lot of his great oil paintings about his own garden and pond after getting prosperous in 1890, such as Water Lilies.

Monet has been described as "the driving force behind Impressionism".
